About the Role
We are seeking two experienced officers to join our friendly and supportive Environmental Health department within the busy Residential team. Your duties will include noise and other nuisance investigations; public health related work; all aspects of private sector housing including licensing of houses in multiple occupation; investigations related to the new Renters’ Rights Act; and handling social housing complaints. An interest in acoustics and experience investigating complex noise complaints, as well as the ability to critique technical noise reports and provide acoustic advice for large development projects, will be advantageous.
You will be enthusiastic, committed, self-motivated, and possess a positive attitude. Excellent communication skills, teamwork, sound time management, and confidence in dealing with members of the public are essential. You must demonstrate adaptability to changing priorities and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
This is a hybrid role supporting both office and home working in line with council policy. Attendance at the office will be required according to a rota and service needs.
The role requires a command of spoken English sufficient for effective job performance, in compliance with the Code of Practice on English language requirements for public sector workers.
Successful candidates will be subject to a Basic Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check and must hold a valid driving licence with access to a vehicle insured for business use, as the post includes an essential car user allowance.
We offer excellent conditions of service including flexible working hours, a pension scheme, and at least 23 days’ paid leave per year (pro rata for part-time).

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in environmental health, particularly within residential settings. Experience in noise investigation and acoustics is highly desirable.

Strong time management skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications
Relevant professional qualifications in Environmental Health or related discipline. Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use are essential due to the car user allowance attached to the post.
