Environmental Health, Public Health Nuisance Officer

Location
Civic Centre Bromley, London Borough of Bromley
Hours
Permanent / Full-time, 36 hours per week
Salary
Grade BR11 to BR13 £41,476 to £50,867
About the Role
We are seeking two Environmental Health Officers to join our Public Health and Nuisance team. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake varied, meaningful work that protects public health, improves local environmental conditions and supports residents and businesses across the borough.
Bromley, London’s largest borough geographically, offers a unique mix of densely urban areas in the north and green belt countryside in the south. This diversity makes it an interesting and rewarding place to practise Environmental Health.
In this role, you will manage a broad range of public health and statutory nuisance investigations, applying professional judgement to complex and sometimes sensitive situations. You will investigate complaints, take proportionate remedial or enforcement action where necessary, and work directly with residents, businesses, landlords, housing providers and other organisations to provide clear advice and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
The position typically operates Monday to Friday with hybrid working arrangements available, requiring a minimum of three days per week office attendance.
Experience
Previous local authority experience is advantageous but not essential. We welcome applications from experienced Environmental Health Officers as well as candidates from related regulatory, housing, public health, enforcement or investigative backgrounds who can demonstrate suitable transferable skills.
About you
You will be confident working independently, able to organise and prioritise a varied caseload, and comfortable making evidence-based decisions. You should enjoy working as part of a supportive team and building constructive relationships with residents, businesses and professional partners. A full driving licence and willingness to undertake some work outside normal office hours are required.
Qualifications
Ideally you will hold a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or a related discipline, although candidates with transferable skills from other areas will be considered.
