Home-based with a nearby Hub in the West Midlands for collaborative working. Site visits across the West Midlands region.

Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary
£33,677 per annum plus £390 per month Car Cash Allowance

About the Role
As an Environmental Scientist at Canal & River Trust, you will provide technical expertise in environmental science for a defined geographical area within the West Midlands. Working within the Environment Team, you will support the protection, improvement, and promotion of the natural environment of the waterways. Your role will involve delivering professional environmental services to ensure compliance with regulations and to enhance the Trust’s environmental assets. Key responsibilities include providing expert technical advice to regional colleagues and stakeholders, contributing to asset management strategies particularly relating to dredging and environmental assets, and implementing inspection, monitoring, and maintenance programmes. You will also engage with customers, volunteers, and stakeholders to promote the value of waterways, support environmental training and competency, and contribute to local fundraising and public awareness initiatives. You will embody the Trust’s values and promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work.

Requirements

Experience
Proven postgraduate experience applying technical environmental knowledge within a business environment. Experience operating within UK and European environmental policy and regulatory frameworks. Experience working in a customer service environment is desirable.

Qualifications
Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Associate membership of a relevant professional institution such as CIEEM, CIWEM, CIWM, or IEMA. Full UK driving licence.
