About the Role
Tower Hamlets is one of the most densely populated and fastest growing boroughs in the country, with a high proportion of flats and increasing numbers of residents, visitors, and workers. This growth leads to more waste that needs to be reduced, reused, or recycled. Currently, the recycling rate is low and contamination rates are high. We are on a mission to create a cleaner, greener Tower Hamlets and are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Services Improvement Officer to join us.

This is an exciting time to work in waste and environmental services, which are at the forefront of change. In this role, you will help shape and promote innovative services committed to reducing waste and increasing recycling across the borough. You will play a key role in rolling out initiatives such as borough-wide food waste programs to improve the local environment, service design, and delivery.

Key responsibilities include project management and coordination to improve waste, recycling, and operational efficiency; supporting the delivery of the Tower Hamlets Waste Management Strategy 2018-2030; gathering, reporting, and analysing project data; engaging with stakeholders and residents to encourage positive behavioural change; and staying informed on legislation and industry trends.

Experience
Experience in project management, waste management, or environmental services is desirable. Proven ability to coordinate projects and engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.

About you
You are an enthusiastic self-starter with excellent attention to detail, strong communication and record-keeping skills, and a keen interest in recycling and environmental improvement. You are motivated to influence positive change and work collaboratively to achieve service goals.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in environmental science, waste management, or related fields are advantageous but not essential. A commitment to continuous learning and professional development is important.
