About the Role
Mott MacDonald Bentley is a fully integrated design and build business combining the design expertise of Mott MacDonald with the contracting experience of JN Bentley to deliver award-winning projects. Working for Mott MacDonald Bentley, you will be involved in major water and wastewater schemes throughout all project phases from feasibility through to construction. With an annual turnover surpassing £500 million, Mott MacDonald Bentley is a leader within the industry, providing an ideal environment for career growth.

Primarily operating in the UK water market, MMB delivers feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services to maintain efficient water flow and wastewater treatment. You will work on projects that positively impact the environment and communities by enhancing water and wastewater treatment systems.

We have recently been named a partner on a new AMP8 framework with United Utilities, extending our relationship for at least five years. This partnership will oversee over £3bn of major infrastructure in the North West of England, including upgrades to wastewater treatment works and the largest spill reduction programme in the UK, protecting over 500km of rivers and bathing waters.

As an Environmental Specialist, you will be part of a UK-wide environment team supporting regional teams of design and operation staff to deliver environmental improvements locally and regionally. Your responsibilities will include identifying environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, supporting project teams to develop risk mitigation measures considering cost, time, compliance, safety, and social impacts, and coordinating specialist environmental inputs such as heritage, archaeology, ecology, and geomorphology.

You will produce environmental deliverables at key project milestones, including EIA screening assessments and environmental management plans, lead liaison with environmental regulators, and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders. You will engage positively with clients on environmental and consenting matters, develop relationships, and enhance the company’s reputation.

A broad understanding of environmental disciplines and project risks is essential, including ecology, archaeology, drainage, geotechnics, contaminated land, landscape, and noise, with deeper expertise in at least one area being advantageous. You will coordinate environmental aspects through effective planning, organisation, and communication to ensure successful project outcomes, solve problems methodically, and drive project delivery with a proactive and pragmatic mindset.

Delivering results within short timeframes, prioritising tasks, and managing your time efficiently are key to success in this role.
