About the Role
The Quality Team within SP Transmission provides business-wide leadership, strategy and direction by integrating Quality, Environmental and Safety policies, programmes and processes that support operational excellence, legal compliance and safe working practices across the organisation. This role supports over 350 employees and agency professionals, plus 800 to 1,000 contractors working on project construction sites during the T3 price control period.
As an Environmental Specialist, you will contribute to HSEQ reporting and analysis for the SP Transmission Director and Senior Management Team, identifying issues, planning mitigation actions and leading annual HSEQ improvement initiatives. You will act as the lead for environmental management system matters across projects, ensuring consistent, high-quality service and support by allocating Environmental Advisors appropriately.
Serving as the first point of contact for environmental escalation issues, you will provide guidance and direction, support delivery of environmental requirements, objectives and targets, and offer advice and training to project teams. You will undertake peer reviews of Environmental Advisors’ work to ensure consistency and quality, audit and follow up on system deviations, and coordinate departmental and company-wide improvement initiatives.
You will manage systems applicable to SP Transmission Major Projects, controlling, updating and communicating procedures and guidance in line with company requirements. Your role includes evolving guides and documents to embed environmental and sustainability requirements within procurement, implementing and improving the Environmental Management System, and leading compliance with the ISO 14001 standard.
You will oversee the Integrated Management System (IMS) from an environmental perspective, drive change, identify opportunities to enhance processes and improve performance, and build strong stakeholder relationships. Representing the business during external audit certification activities, you will facilitate workshops and meetings, analyse performance indicators, and influence decision-making to support business improvement.
Additional responsibilities include conducting internal BREEAM Infrastructure assessments, implementing sustainable practices, creating and updating relevant processes, developing audit programmes, conducting ISO 14001 audits, coordinating team meetings, and ensuring environmental processes remain accessible and regularly reviewed within the IMS. You will also consult with procurement teams on supply chain improvements and prepare environmental systems updates for senior management.
Reviewing and recording environmental incidents to identify trends and root causes will be key to driving learning and continual improvement across projects and business activities.
