About the Role
BAM UK&I is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Manager - Nature Lead to provide strong ecological expertise and lead biodiversity initiatives across the UK & Ireland Division. This role focuses on delivering BAM's Nature Positive Plan by supporting on-the-ground project delivery, tender opportunities, and early design stages with practical ecological input. Key responsibilities include integrating biodiversity and ecological considerations into multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and protected species legislation, and driving nature-positive initiatives across the business. The role also involves horizon scanning for relevant government policies and industry developments, supporting sustainable procurement, contributing to work-winning activities, and representing BAM at industry forums. This is an exciting opportunity to join BAM during a strategic partnership with the Eden Project to co-create innovative tools and training that enhance nature outcomes in the built environment. The role supports BAM’s mission of building a sustainable tomorrow and requires a willingness to travel frequently across the UK and Ireland.
Experience
- Strong technical knowledge and experience in biodiversity and nature-based solutions, including Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), protected species licensing, landscape management, habitat creation, or nature-positive strategies.
- Experience with ecological assessment processes and compliance with UK and Ireland environmental legislation.
- Proven track record working in multi-disciplinary project teams, ideally within construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Significant experience in similar roles across private and/or public sectors.
- Strong understanding of current and emerging biodiversity policies, strategies, and industry approaches.
- Experience engaging senior stakeholders and building collaborative partnerships.
- Commercial awareness of nature-related risks, opportunities, and compliance requirements.
About you
- Willingness to travel frequently across the UK and Ireland.
- Strong communication and presentation skills for internal and external audiences.
- Ability to organise workload and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong influencing and networking skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to identify and implement nature-enhancing solutions.
- Passionate about nature conservation and committed to delivering measurable improvements.
- Ability to apply sustainability concepts beyond biodiversity, including climate adaptation, carbon, and sustainable procurement.
- Good working knowledge of biodiversity challenges in the construction and built environment sectors.
Qualifications
- Relevant degree qualification.
- Professional membership of ISEP, CIEEM, or a similar professional body is desirable.
