About the Role
National Highways is seeking an Estates Net Zero Project Support Lead to join the Energy and Sustainability team within the Business Services Directorate (BSD). This role is pivotal in supporting the delivery of the estate decarbonisation programme, which aims to achieve Net Zero corporate emissions by 2030. Key responsibilities include driving measurable reductions in energy usage and carbon emissions across offices, depots, outstations, and regional control centres by removing fossil fuels, generating onsite renewable electricity, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing energy data management.
The role involves supporting project scoping, business case development, and monthly forecasting, accruals, and reporting of project progress. You will work closely with the sustainability data officer to collect and analyse energy and utilities data to verify the impact of decarbonisation projects and use insights to inform future initiatives and influence staff behaviours.
Additional responsibilities include supporting the Estates Net Zero Project Manager on project management workstreams related to upgrading utility meters and control systems, such as smart control technologies. You will act as a liaison between estate decarbonisation projects and other estate projects to ensure alignment and lead internal stakeholder engagement across National Highways.
National Highways manages and improves England’s motorways and major A roads, focusing on safety, customer experience, and delivery. The Business Services Directorate supports the organisation by providing essential services including procurement, finance, HR, IT, and strategic planning, ensuring efficient operations and successful project delivery aligned with safety, sustainability, and customer satisfaction goals.
Experience
- Proven experience in project delivery with knowledge of CDM principles.
- Experience managing and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in handling, managing, and interpreting complex data sets.
- Background in project delivery or energy and carbon management.
