About the Role
National Highways has an excellent opportunity for an Estates Sustainability Manager to join our Energy and Sustainability Team within the Business Services Directorate (BSD). This role is key in embedding change within the Estates & Facilities Management (E&FM) division as we progress towards a more sustainable estate. You will be responsible for driving the success of the Estates decarbonisation plan, working collaboratively across the division to identify efficiencies in waste, water, and energy, and ensuring sustainable design principles are followed.
Your responsibilities will include embedding the Estates Decarbonisation Plan to reduce emissions from energy, water, and waste through collaborative working, communications, engagement activities, and reporting. You will manage the sustainability annex within the Estates and FM design guide, ensuring new build or retrofit depots and outstations meet sustainability standards. As a subject matter expert, you will support business cases and projects across Estates and FM.
You will also play a lead role in the Green Network behaviour change campaign, organising monthly meetings and annual in-person events to increase engagement and reduce staff environmental impact. Additionally, you will support the wider E&FM division on environmental sustainability matters including climate change adaptation and biodiversity, ensuring alignment with the Greening Government Commitments and National Highways environmental sustainability strategy.
National Highways manages and improves England’s motorways and major A roads, focusing on safety, customers, and delivery, underpinned by values of passion, integrity, safety, teamwork, and ownership. The Business Services Directorate supports the efficient operation and growth of the strategic road network by providing essential services such as procurement, finance, human resources, IT, and strategic planning. This role contributes to delivering high-quality infrastructure and services that meet safety, sustainability, and customer satisfaction commitments.
Experience
