The Roads Team at the Truro office is involved in a range of exciting projects on both local and global scales. These include high-profile projects such as HS2, East West Rail and Sizewell C – some of the biggest infrastructure projects ever delivered in the UK. More locally, the office has played pivotal roles in significant projects shaping the county, such as Langarth Garden Village, Truro Northern Access Road, West Carclaze Garden Village, St Austell – A30 Link Road, and the Chiverton Cross – Carland Cross A30 Upgrade. The team also supports Cormac with the delivery of several key infrastructure projects within Cornwall. This diverse portfolio showcases the team's expertise and commitment to making a significant impact in infrastructure development.
WSP are seeking enthusiastic and talented engineers at various grades from Senior Engineer through to Principal Engineer to join the Roads team based in Truro. You will lead day-to-day technical delivery of highway consultancy services supporting clients through all stages of the project life-cycle from feasibility and concept design through to planning, detailed design, and construction. This client-facing role requires a proven track record of delivering schemes in either the local or national transport arena.
Depending on your grade, responsibilities include managing projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi-disciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value; liaising with clients to develop strong trusted relationships, proactively managing expectations and advising comprehensively; undertaking project technical lead and reviewer roles; supporting others to maximise their contribution; preparing fee proposals and managing budgets; delivering project solutions; leading and managing staff in design delivery; ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental Legislation and quality assurance standards; and actively coordinating team resources to place the right people in the right roles.

Requirements

Experience
Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design and/or drainage systems at various stages of the project life cycle. Specific experience in road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design is advantageous. Demonstrable experience leading single or multiple design disciplines in relevant projects such as road, public transport, active travel, public realm and/or private development. Proficient in design software including Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, and PDS. Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations and managing change on projects with clear communication of impacts on programme, cost and quality.

Qualifications
Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with extensive post professional qualification experience, or working towards achieving this. Thorough understanding and application of relevant design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, SuDs Manual, and Local Authority design guidance. Well versed in preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals including application of departures from standard.
