WSP are seeking enthusiastic and talented engineers at a variety of grades to join the Roads team based in Wales, in either our Cardiff or Wrexham offices. Your role will be at the heart of our high performing team, using your project management skills and expertise to help us continue delivering projects effectively and efficiently for a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle. You could find yourself managing the delivery of projects including strategic network improvements, major and minor highway maintenance and asset renewals, active travel and public transport infrastructure, road safety interventions, as well as public realm initiatives. Our well-established client base includes Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent, South Wales Trunk Road Agent, and Welsh local authorities.
A little more about your role… You will be leading day to day technical delivery of highway consultancy services to support our clients through all stages of the project life-cycle from feasibility and concept design through to planning, detailed design, and construction. This role will be client facing and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivery of schemes in either the local or national transport arena. Dependent upon the grade at which you are applicable, the role will involve either leading on or contributing to the following: managing projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi-disciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value; liaising with clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing their expectations and comprehensively advising them; undertaking project technical lead and reviewer roles; using your technical ability and experience to support others to maximise their personal contribution to project/team goals; preparing fee proposals and managing budgets for individual projects; being responsible for the development and delivery of discrete and overall project solutions; leading and managing other staff members in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities, supporting the preparation of tender packages; ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes; and being actively involved with team resource coordination, supporting the setup of teams and placing the right people in the right roles.

Experience
Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design and/or drainage systems at various stages of the project life cycle. Specific experience in road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design is advantageous. Demonstrable and relevant experience in leading a single or multiple design disciplines in relevant projects (i.e. road, public transport, active travel, public realm and/or private development). Ability to use, direct and/or check design outputs created in software including but not limited to Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, PDS. Experience managing change on tasks/projects with clear communication of impacts on programme, cost, and quality.

Qualifications
Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with extensive post professional qualification experience, or working towards achieving this. Thorough understanding and application of relevant design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Local Authority design guidance. Well versed in preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals including application of departures from standard. Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations. Note that the above will be scalable to the grade applied for within the range Assistant Engineer to Principal Engineer.
