About the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. You will join the Hinkley Point C project, a nationally significant programme helping to secure the UK's low-carbon energy future by delivering reliable, affordable electricity to millions of homes for generations to come. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a project of unprecedented scale and complexity, while developing your career in an environment where your expertise, leadership and ambition can make a lasting impact.
As a Field Engineer (Welding/NDT Inspector), you will be responsible for performing surveillance to ensure activities are carried out in accordance with the Contractor’s Work Information. You will be a staunch advocate of our Nuclear Safety Culture and help embed this approach in all processes and activities undertaken on the project.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting and verifying that works are constructed in accordance with the contract, identifying non-conformances and notifying the Construction Superintendent where action is required.
- Raising, completing and issuing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) to relevant contract partners and monitoring their progress through to resolution.
- Proactively communicating with NNB stakeholders, maintaining strong working relationships and ensuring surveillance activities are completed and reported in a timely manner.
- Contributing surveillance information to support team and project KPIs.
- Identifying potential quality issues at an early stage and supporting the implementation of appropriate mitigating actions.
- Supporting the team in implementing temporary measures to mitigate risks, maintain safe working conditions and ensure works remain within required quality standards.
- Following up with appropriate and proportionate actions, such as issuing communications or arranging meetings, to help prevent unnecessary disruption or delays to works.
- Ensuring design decisions are not made “in the field” by EDF Energy or contractors, and that any required changes are considered, reviewed and approved through the appropriate formal processes.
- Providing the team with a clear perspective of current and upcoming site activities, helping to anticipate potential quality and construction issues.
- Ensuring tasks are planned and delivered in accordance with the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records.
- Ensuring and monitoring that required Quality Inspection Records are completed, reviewed and agreed before works are covered up.
- Reviewing contractor performance against authorised Quality Control Plans and identifying any areas requiring corrective or improvement actions.
Our values underpin everything we do:
