About the Role
As a Field Service Engineer specialising in Utility Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of energy storage installations. Your key duties include conducting planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and repairs, commissioning and testing, and remote monitoring support. You will work closely with technical support and engineering teams to resolve complex issues and maintain compliance with electrical safety standards and site-specific requirements. This role demands a strong commitment to health and safety, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, field-based environment. You will act as the primary technical representative on site, building strong relationships with customers, contractors, and suppliers while delivering high levels of professionalism and customer service. Experience
- Proven experience working on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewables, low-voltage electrical systems, and industrial power systems.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills and ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience with electrical installation, maintenance, and high-voltage switching awareness.
- Familiarity with power conversion systems, battery technologies (preferably Lithium-Ion), protection systems, network communications, SCADA monitoring systems, and root cause analysis.
- Previous experience with utility-scale battery storage systems, SCADA systems, PLC controls, power electronics, inverters, converters, and G99/Grid Code knowledge is desirable.
- Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience is an advantage.
- Renewable energy industry experience is preferred.

Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
