About the Role
As a Gardener for the National Trust at Mottisfont, you will be a hands-on member of the horticulture team, involved in every aspect of garden maintenance and supporting Volunteer gardeners. You will be responsible for day-to-day upkeep, ensuring the highest standards of horticultural practice, and enhancing the visitor experience across the garden and wider estate. The role requires working weekends on a rota basis, bank holidays, and occasional evenings.
Located in idyllic riverside gardens surrounded by ancient trees, brooks, and rolling lawns, Mottisfont offers evolving colour and interest throughout the year. The estate includes 1600 acres of woodland, tenanted farms, and a biodiverse landscape. The garden features two National Plant Collections and significant history, providing a sensory treat for visitors.
Under the guidance of Senior Gardeners, your duties will include daily safety checks, planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, and operating machinery such as hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers, and tractors. Additional tasks may involve propagation, tree safety work, garden restoration, supporting apprentice development, and managing green waste recycling. You may also support events and busy periods as part of the property team.
