About the Role
Join the UK’s leading independent grid experts, trusted by some of the world’s largest companies to deliver their most complex energy projects. As a Grid Connections Engineer at UK Networks Services, you will work at the forefront of the industry—solving challenging engineering problems, shaping major grid connections, and making a real difference with your expertise. We are hiring two roles: one remote and one based in our Bishop's Stortford offices, with flexibility on working patterns and locations.
Your core responsibility will be supporting customers to get connected to the grid, ranging from EV charging hubs at Low Voltage to the largest UK data centres with Gigawatt-scale connections. This role combines detailed power systems engineering with a customer-focused approach to deliver outstanding and innovative solutions.
You will use cutting-edge power systems modelling software (ETAP, SINCAL, IPSA) to model high voltage and extra high voltage networks, identify points of connection, and assess any required reinforcements. Combining your expert network knowledge with our in-house designed and manufactured control systems, you will offer unique grid connection solutions unavailable elsewhere.
Key activities include:
- Using power systems modelling software to identify electrical capacity (thermal, voltage, fault level) on distribution and transmission networks
- Creating and maintaining strong relationships internally and with customers, DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs
- Designing innovative grid connection solutions using our in-house grid control systems
- Managing the end-to-end grid connections process and providing expert customer support
- Preparing engineering drawings and technical reports (grid compliance, single line diagrams)
- Representing UK Networks Services at industry events
- Assessing connection offers for technical, regulatory, and commercial compliance and risk
Experience
- Significant experience in LV & HV electrical distribution network design
- Strong background in the technical DNO connection offer process using power systems software or equivalent tools
- Experience with both demand and generation connections at HV and EHV levels
- Detailed knowledge of connections processes and associated standards (CCCMS, ECCR)
- Experience with NERS design approval process with DNO/IDNO/ICP is an advantage
- Proficient in power systems tools such as WinDebut, IPSA, ETAP, SINCAL, ELEK Cable HV, ELEK Safe Grid, AutoCAD or equivalents
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and customers
- Strong technical and mathematical skills
- Ability to self-start, work independently, and maintain good governance and record keeping
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
- Ability to travel within the UK and hold a full, clean driving licence
About you
Enthusiastic and innovative engineer with a customer-focused mindset, able to deliver outstanding solutions and build strong relationships. Self-motivated with excellent communication skills and a commitment to quality and compliance.
