Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast. We are building a fully integrated energy company developing solar, batteries, and other generation projects, building hardware, improving grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, and installing distributed energy in homes. By selling directly to consumers, we cut out the middleman, lower costs, and pass the savings on to customers. The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Engineer is responsible for site-based HSE performance across the UK utility-scale renewable portfolio, supporting projects from development through construction, commissioning, and early operations. This role ensures all activities are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with legal, regulatory, and internal standards. Reporting to the Head of Projects, the HSE Engineer drives a strong safety culture, ensures robust compliance frameworks, and supports continuous improvement across construction and operational sites.
Responsibilities
- Support delivery of HSE across construction and operational portfolios, ensuring safe, compliant, and environmentally sound project delivery
- Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and management systems
- Promote a strong safety culture across internal teams, sites, EPC contractors, and subcontractors
- Provide day-to-day HSE support and guidance to project managers, site teams, and contractors
- Monitor compliance with UK legislation, CDM Regulations, HSE requirements, and company standards
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety reviews, identifying risks and tracking corrective actions
- Review RAMS, risk assessments, method statements, and other HSE documentation
- Support investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring actions are recorded and followed through
- Monitor HSE performance and contribute to project and portfolio-level KPIs
- Support environmental compliance including monitoring environmental risks and incidents
- Assist with contractor mobilisation, onboarding, and ongoing HSE performance monitoring
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, training, and other HSE activities
- Support internal, external, regulatory, and lender audits as required
- Assist with delivery of site inductions, toolbox talks, HSE training, and safety awareness programmes
- Share lessons learned and support implementation of improvements
- Identify opportunities to improve HSE processes, reduce risk, and maintain consistent standards across the portfolio
Experience
3–7 years in HSE roles within construction, energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors. Strong experience in utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, wind, or large infrastructure projects. Experience managing HSE across multiple construction sites or projects. Experience conducting audits, investigations, and risk assessments. Strong understanding of EPC environments and contractor management.

Qualifications
NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) essential. Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation and CDM Regulations. Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001) advantageous.
