WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Technician to join the Roads team based in our Guildford office. You’ll work alongside a host of talented people ranging from early career professionals to established engineers and project managers across the Roads business and other disciplines to improve local and strategic road networks and develop a broad range of infrastructure projects.
Your role will be at the heart of a high performing and supportive team, using your skills and expertise to help maintain and improve the quality of our engineering outputs. You can expect to deliver highway design solutions such as access and haul roads to support National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade portfolio, a variety of highway improvements for National Highways on their Scheme Delivery Framework, and road design and improvements for various local highway authorities in the surrounding area.
There is also opportunity to develop experience in specific areas such as utilities, carbon, digital and drainage through work on large, multi-disciplinary projects.
Key Duties:
- Work in a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative solutions
- Deliver engineering solutions for projects or work packages of varying scale, complexity, value and project stages, often across several projects simultaneously
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and internal disciplines, developing trusted relationships and proactively managing expectations
- Collaborate with Project and Technical Delivery teams to measure carbon on projects using WSP Future Ready programme
- Deliver work in compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and in-house quality assurance
- Use design and drafting tools such as Civils3D/AutoCAD; additional skills in Bentley design software like OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation are advantageous
- Familiarity with BIM environments such as ProjectWise, Autodesk Forma (formerly ACC), other Common Data Environments, CAD QA/QC processes, and collaborative digital delivery is beneficial
- Interest or capability in digital automation, data-driven design, or computational tools including AI-assisted workflows, Python, C++, Dynamo or similar is welcomed
Experience
- Demonstrable experience engaging with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public
- Experience in data handling with MS Excel and/or other data-based systems
- Understanding of highway engineering principles including design techniques, standards and procedures with ability to apply knowledge to small-scale or moderately complex projects

- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders
Qualifications
- Level 4 qualification (or above) in a STEM based subject, or equivalent experience in an engineering technician role
- Attained or working towards professional qualifications such as EngTech, with demonstrable progress
- Good knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of best practice such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, and Local Authority design guidance
