About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Historic Environment Consultant to join our growing multidisciplinary Climate and Sustainability Services (CSS) team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects across the UK, supporting the historic environment through high-quality consultancy advice and collaboration with colleagues from diverse disciplines.
Your responsibilities will include preparing Historic Environment Desk Based Assessments, undertaking site and archive visits, and contributing to Environmental Statement (ES) chapters. You will design and manage archaeological fieldwork projects, including monitoring contractors and delivering bespoke archaeological strategies for large infrastructure projects under senior supervision. This role requires a strong foundation in UK archaeology and heritage consultancy, with experience in report writing and project management within the UK planning system.
As a core member of the London-based team, you will work closely with colleagues in the Midlands and report to a designated line manager. You will play a key role in helping clients achieve their objectives while advancing Arup’s legacy of socially useful and impactful work.
Experience
- Strong foundation in UK archaeology and heritage consultancy
- Experience preparing Historic Environment Desk Based Assessments, Heritage Statements, Written Schemes of Investigation, and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) chapters including setting assessments
- Experience in archaeological fieldwork project management and design
- Confident user of GIS software (ArcGIS Pro preferred) and dataset manipulation
- Sound knowledge of the UK legislative framework and policy relating to the historic environment

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in Archaeology or related subject
- Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (PCIfA minimum, ACIfA preferred)
- Full UK driving license
