About the Role
Are you a marine technology professional looking for new opportunities and challenges in autonomous systems, marine control and digital systems? The School of Engineering Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) at the University of Plymouth offers a welcoming and inspiring environment to work and study. SECaM is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and includes civil and coastal engineering, computer science, electrical and electronic engineering and robotics, mathematical sciences, mechanical, marine and materials engineering, and navigation and maritime science. We are a collaborative and interdisciplinary community of world-leading academics and researchers focused on advancing knowledge and creating innovative solutions with positive societal impact. Our extensive research portfolio covers offshore renewable energy, marine and maritime technologies, coastal engineering, robotics, maritime cybersecurity, autonomy, artificial intelligence and data science. Our teaching staff are passionate about providing an innovative and inspiring learning experience.

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Maritime Technology to enhance and strengthen our research and teaching capacities in marine autonomy, maritime operations, control and digital systems. You will design and deliver innovative teaching that prepares and inspires undergraduate and postgraduate students for careers in the maritime sector, reflecting the University of Plymouth’s focus on experiential learning. Your teaching will be informed by your research and collaboration with academics and industry to achieve real impact on the maritime sector. You will also engage in student recruitment activities with enthusiasm and passion for your subject.

You will be encouraged to maximise the benefits of the university’s marine-related facilities, including the Maritime Simulation Laboratory, the COAST Laboratory and the Marine Station. You will take responsibility for leading and managing these activities, reporting to the school leadership team and collaborating with staff across the university.

Key responsibilities include designing and delivering innovative teaching based on your research or maritime sector experience, developing and leading impactful research in collaboration with academics and industry nationally and internationally, and inspiring new students through recruitment activities.

Due to the nature of the role, working from home cannot be accommodated. The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to undertaking research.

The University of Plymouth is committed to advancing gender equality and diversity, holding an Athena Swan Silver award. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, including women and members of underrepresented groups.

The university supports interdisciplinary research through its Marine Institute and Sustainable Earth Institute. As a member of our academic community, you will be expected to contribute to recognised research strengths and collaborate across disciplines to address global challenges.
