Hybrid working: mainly home-based, with occasional time at the Derrygonnelly field office, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Occasional travel across Northern Ireland and cross-border.

37 hours per week (1 FTE)

Salary
£34,000 - £37,000 per annum (Grade 4), depending on experience plus 8% pension contribution

About the Role
The Limestone Grassland Project Manager will oversee the delivery of Butterfly Conservation’s Limestone Grassland project through the PeacePlus Nature partnership, a priority landscape and species initiative based in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. This fixed-term role until 31st July 2029 involves engaging a broad range of stakeholders including partners, farmers, land managers, communities, and volunteers to protect and raise awareness of limestone grassland habitats and their priority species.
The project includes delivering a targeted programme of capital works, conducting surveys of key Lepidoptera species such as Irish Plume and Small Blue, mapping priority species, and delivering engagement and volunteer activities. These activities include providing advice and guidance, networking, digital resources, events, practical conservation work, community events, and species and habitat workshops.
The role requires line management of the project team, ensuring compliance with funding agreements, managing budgets and procurement, and representing Butterfly Conservation on project boards and steering groups. The Project Manager will promote best practice management advice, deliver workshops and presentations, disseminate project impact through media and reports, and help build volunteer capacity in Northern Ireland.
Working closely with the Head of Nature Recovery - Northern Ireland and other Butterfly Conservation staff, the role supports the organisation’s strategic aims to connect people to nature and promote nature recovery across the region. The post-holder will ensure health and safety compliance for all participants and foster collaboration across the Nature Recovery Directorate.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in project management, ideally within conservation or environmental sectors. Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and team leadership is essential. Knowledge of habitat management and species conservation, particularly Lepidoptera, is highly desirable.

Professional and motivated individual with strong leadership and communication skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Comfortable managing budgets, reporting to funders, and representing the organisation in multi-partner settings. Enthusiastic about nature conservation and community engagement. Willingness to travel across Northern Ireland and cross-border areas as required.

Qualifications
A relevant degree or equivalent experience in ecology, conservation, environmental management, or related field is preferred. Candidates must have the right to work and be resident in the UK.
