About the Role
We are looking for a Local Nature Recovery Assistant to support the development and delivery of ambitious local nature recovery projects across Gloucestershire. Local Nature Recovery Strategies are shaping how counties and authorities prioritise and support nature recovery projects in their local area. The Gloucestershire Local Nature Recovery Strategy (GLNRS) was published in February 2026, and this assistant role is ideal for career changers, those starting a career in the nature recovery sector, or those with some relevant experience. You will support the Local Nature Recovery Officer in facilitating and administering the GLNRS and in meeting the legal responsibilities and duties of Gloucestershire County Council. This role offers experience across landscape-scale nature recovery delivery, project development, developing project pipelines and trackers, administering the Gloucestershire Nature Recovery Fund, community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and gathering, monitoring and reporting data from local organisations and their nature recovery projects to central government.
About Us
Hybrid working arrangements are available for many roles, allowing a balance between remote and office working. Joining Gloucestershire County Council offers benefits including flexible and agile working opportunities, 25.5 days annual leave rising to 30.5 days after 5 years continuous service, the option to purchase additional leave, family friendly policies, career development and qualification opportunities, a supportive working environment with regular supervision, Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), access to an Employee Assistance Programme providing confidential counselling and advice 24/7, an in-house Occupational Health service, and a Green Car Salary Sacrifice Scheme (eligibility criteria apply). Employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) and the Young Employees Network are also available.
Experience
Ideally an environmental degree or experience working within an environmental organisation or setting.
About You
Passionate about nature recovery in the UK with good knowledge of the main challenges to nature. Open to innovative approaches for achieving landscape-scale nature restoration. A team player and self-starter who uses their own initiative while contributing to the development of work processes and projects. Highly organised and willing to contribute ideas supporting the ongoing delivery of the GLNRS. Confident communicator able to engage a wide audience and build positive relationships with partners and stakeholders.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are mandated, but relevant environmental education or experience is preferred.
