Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire. This role covers Forestry England's South and West districts, so occasional travel will be expected.

About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineering Field Service Engineer, you will be a mobile mechanic providing efficient, value-for-money service to support Forestry England’s objectives. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and repairing vehicles and specialist forestry equipment to ensure the fleet is professionally and cost-effectively maintained, maximising availability. Tasks include inspecting, repairing, servicing, welding, fabrication, and recovery work at worksites and other locations. You will typically work on chainsaws, trailers, quads, agricultural machinery such as tractors and their attachments, cars, vans, and 4x4s. This role reports to the Mechanical Engineering Charge Hand / Service Delivery Administrator.

Experience
Proven experience in mechanical engineering or vehicle maintenance, ideally including experience with forestry or agricultural machinery. Ability to carry out welding, fabrication, and recovery work is essential.

You are comfortable working independently and travelling across districts as required. You have good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team. A flexible approach to work and a passion for forestry and the environment are desirable.
Qualifications
A relevant mechanical engineering qualification or equivalent experience is required. A full clean UK driving licence is essential. You will be assessed on technical skills through a practical test and strength-based interview questions.
