About the Role
This role is within the Grounds Maintenance Team responsible for maintaining parks and green spaces across the city. Primary tasks include mowing using ride-on and walk-behind mowers, shrub, hedge and minor tree maintenance using power and hand tools, litter removal, and some limited horticultural work. The successful candidate will be required to drive a vehicle in accordance with council regulations and hold a full valid driving licence at all times. The role requires working towards or holding higher level qualifications such as PA1, PA6, use of tractor with mower and side arm flail, NVQ Amenity Horticulture, and use of chainsaw and chipper. This is a full-time, permanent position with face-to-face interviews. The closing date for applications is 18 October 2026 at 11.59pm.

Experience
Previous experience in Grounds Maintenance or a similar operational role is required. Experience and/or qualifications in the use of power tools, ability to drive with a trailer, and horticultural knowledge are beneficial but not essential.

You should be committed, hard working, flexible, willing to learn, and a good team player. Holding a full valid driving licence is essential.
Qualifications
New entrants to this role must hold or be willing to work towards higher level qualifications including:
- PA1 and PA6 pesticide application certificates

- Use of chainsaw and chipper
Additional Requirements
- Must provide two references covering three years’ employment history where possible
- Must evidence right to work in the UK before employment commencement
- Pre-employment checks may include proof of qualifications, DBS check, proof of Manchester residency, police vetting, BPSS clearance, and driving licence verification as applicable
