About the Role
Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park is a vibrant primary academy with nursery provision, proud to celebrate the diverse backgrounds, abilities, faiths, and cultures within our school community. We are seeking a Premises Officer to join our team and ensure the provision of a safe, clean, and attractive learning environment. You will be responsible for the maintenance, security, health and safety of the academy site, working collaboratively with staff and external contractors to support the smooth running of the premises.
Your key responsibilities will include ensuring adherence to health and safety policies, identifying and mitigating hazards promptly, servicing and checking academy vehicles, providing technical and craft support to teaching staff, and maintaining site security. You will also be involved in decorating, repairing, and maintaining the premises and grounds, managing litter and waste, monitoring cleanliness of toilets, and assisting with furniture removal for events. Regular site tours to keep corridors clear and locking gates securely are also part of the role.
Working closely with external contractors, you will supervise their activities on site to ensure safety and quality standards are met. You will report any structural faults, broken fixtures, graffiti, or lighting issues and assist in emergency situations outside normal working hours.
Experience
- Experience working in an inner city school or educational establishment with children and young people
- Considerable DIY experience and skills
- Experience in maintenance, security systems, and supervisory roles is desirable

- Able to work evenings and weekends regularly
- Able to respond effectively to emergencies outside normal working hours
- Reliable, vigilant, and proactive in maintaining a safe environment
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements
- Basic training or sound experience in one or more of the following: plumbing, general and ground maintenance, electrical/building maintenance, heating systems
- Basic knowledge of heating and ventilating systems and common malfunctions
- Understanding of appropriate cleaning methods and standards
- Ability to monitor and report on structural faults and repairs
- Ability to monitor and order stocks of materials
