About the Role
We are Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority, a non-ministerial government department responsible for regulating the water sector in England and Wales. We have an opportunity for a Press Officer Associate to join our Communications and Engagement Team within the Office of the Chief Executive Directorate.
The water sector is entering a new chapter with a bold government direction to deliver better outcomes for customers and the environment. Ofwat is collaborating with fellow regulators and government bodies to shape the future of water governance in England and Wales.
This role sits within a team of approximately 25 members responsible for building trust and confidence in Ofwat, managing external and internal engagement, owning communications channels, generating customer insight, and listening to customers across England and Wales.
The Press Office is the guardian of Ofwat’s reputation, working to protect and promote the organisation’s work across national and local newspapers, broadcast, trade, specialist, and digital media. You will contribute to delivering our media strategy, ensuring effective targeting of media stakeholders, delivering key messages to the right audiences, and strengthening horizon scanning.
Key responsibilities include servicing media enquiries, advising on communications and media handling, drafting press releases, developing proactive media tactics, supporting senior leaders with media briefings, building journalist relationships, conducting analysis and evaluation, participating in out-of-hours media duty, and collaborating with partner regulators and government on water-related issues.
Experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Interest, knowledge, and awareness of the modern media landscape.
- Experience working with media and the press, including new media outlets.
- Ability to influence and network with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and journalists.
- Ability to horizon scan and identify upcoming risks and opportunities.
