About the Role
We are seeking Principal level environmental professionals to join our Environmental Management and Assessment Team across our UK offices. You will work on an exciting portfolio of projects spanning sectors such as energy, aviation, nuclear, rail, property, and Local Government. This role requires a creative spirit, dedication, and a solid grounding in environmental design, assessment, and management throughout the development project lifecycle.
As one of the largest environmental consultancies in the UK, WSP is involved in some of the most challenging and high-profile projects, ranging from small developments to major national infrastructure schemes. Our team oversees and manages environmental inputs throughout project lifecycles, engaging early at concept and option stages to shape projects that consider sensitive environments and communities.
You will collaborate closely with environmental specialists and other professionals to develop proposals that enhance the environment and communities, promoting benefits such as improved habitats, cleaner air and water, lower carbon emissions, and overall environmental gain. You will also support design and construction teams to ensure commitments are met.
This role is ideal for a proactive individual eager to progress their career by leading environmental teams and inputs across multiple sectors including rail, highways, energy, and commercial/residential projects from feasibility through to planning, detailed design, construction, and handover/maintenance.
Typical responsibilities include providing environmental advice and support to clients and project teams, leading large and complex projects, managing project delivery and finances, building client relationships, developing new business opportunities, and contributing to innovative techniques such as Digital EIA and Technical Excellence. You will also promote team culture, support colleagues, and uphold health, safety, and wellbeing values.
Join a close-knit community of talented individuals passionate about making a positive impact locally and globally. Apply today to be part of WSP’s dynamic team.
Experience
Extensive experience in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and EIA processes, working with limited supervision within multi-disciplinary teams. Proven track record in large-scale infrastructure projects such as rail, highways, energy, and commercial/residential developments. Strong project management skills including commercial and risk management, forecasting, and quality assurance. Sound knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation.
About you
A proactive and enthusiastic individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and reviewing with attention to detail. Able to lead and influence environmental elements of engineering projects, build client relationships, and identify business development opportunities. Committed to promoting an inclusive workplace and health and safety culture. Self-motivated towards achieving team and business goals.
Qualifications
A relevant environmental degree or equivalent qualification in EIA or a related discipline. Achieved or demonstrably working towards Chartered Environmental Status and full membership of IEMA or a similar professional body.
