About the Role

At Tetra Tech, you will join a high-performing flood risk and drainage team working on major and challenging infrastructure projects across the UK for both private and public sectors. Our projects span a wide range of sectors including defence, transport, local government, healthcare, education, commercial, industrial, and residential development, with schemes ranging from £2k to £100M.
As a Principal or Associate Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant, you will lead projects and proposals related to flood risk assessment, drainage strategy, design and modelling, environmental water assessments, and input into Environmental Impact Assessments. You will work independently and proactively from project inception through to delivery and close out, ensuring best practice and client satisfaction. You will support project managers and may take on project management responsibilities for low risk projects, including client-facing roles.
You will also mentor junior staff, supervise design and management of schemes, and collaborate with clients to deliver projects on time and within budget. The role involves occasional UK-wide travel and working outside normal office hours when necessary.
Experience
- Proven experience delivering flood risk projects and assessments to support planning applications.
- Knowledge of UK flood risk policies such as NPPF, SPP, and TAN15.
- Experience consulting and liaising with key stakeholders including clients, LLFA, EA, and water companies.
- Skilled in writing technical reports and presenting to internal and external partners.
- Experience developing drainage strategies, SuDS, and drainage solutions referencing local and national guidance (e.g. SuDS Manual).
- Experience in discharge of conditions for planning applications.
- Experience delivering Water Framework Directive assessments.
- Knowledge of environmental, ecological, and geomorphological aspects of flood risk schemes.
- Proficiency in Micro Drainage/Info Drainage.
- Experience in peer review.
- Competent in IT systems such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience preparing fee proposals and assisting with large bids.

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
- Chartered status with CIWEM or equivalent professional body.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Security Clearance to minimum SC level preferable, or willingness to apply for clearance.
