About the Role
The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation dedicated to improving health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. We plan to invest £16bn over the next ten years to tackle three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health. This role is within the Climate and Health Research Programme’s Mitigation Team, which supports the generation of robust, relevant health evidence to drive climate mitigation benefiting both people and the planet. The team develops and funds transdisciplinary research co-produced by scientists, decision-makers, and affected communities, working in partnership with researchers, policy makers, philanthropies, and communities to maximise impact.

As Research Manager, you will contribute to the Climate & Health strategy by identifying, developing, and managing funding for diverse research projects focused on health co-benefits of climate mitigation. Your work will include convening and funding research calls, commissions, and evidence scoping contracts. You will lead initiatives across priority areas such as sustainable and resilient food systems, the energy transition, and super pollutants, with a focus on land-use, greenhouse gases, health impact assessments (HIA), and climate mitigation in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Key responsibilities include delivering impactful work through technical expertise, collaborating across Wellcome to share knowledge, building and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders, engaging external experts, managing strategic initiatives, and championing inclusive practice and accountability. You will manage projects, liaise with partners, monitor research progress, promote diversity and inclusion, and ensure compliance with Wellcome’s policies.

This role is ideal for someone with research expertise from academia, industry, charity, or funding sectors who thrives in mission-driven, collaborative environments and has strong communication and organisational skills.

Requirements

Experience
- Demonstrable breadth of research expertise relevant to Climate Mitigation, particularly at the nexus of land-use, climate and health, and/or Health Impact Assessments (HIA), with experience in LMIC contexts.
- Experience or knowledge of universities, funders, and relevant scientific and research organisations.
- Proven ability to communicate complex information effectively across diverse audiences and seniority levels.
- Well-developed writing skills with the ability to synthesise information clearly and concisely.
- Experience managing projects in academic, charity, or industry settings.

About you
- Collaborative and mission-driven with strong organisational and communication skills.
- Able to engage diverse stakeholders and manage strategic initiatives.
- Committed to fostering diversity, inclusion, and accountability in research and partnerships.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment and managing multiple priorities.

Qualifications
- Relevant academic or professional qualifications are expected but not explicitly stated; emphasis is on relevant experience and expertise in climate mitigation and health research.
