Full Time, Part Time, Part Time/Job Share, Flexible Working - 37 hours per week standard. This role requires working regular unsocial hours with a 20% payment for hours outside 0700-1900 Monday to Friday, including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank/Public holidays.

£38,840 - £40,896 per year

About the Role
This is a delivery role within an establishment requiring an appropriate trade. The job holder will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and amenity areas within the estate at HMP Downview. This is a non-operational role with no line management or supervisory responsibilities.

The role includes carrying out soft landscaping such as turf laying and hard landscaping including laying patio stones. You will maintain lawns, ponds, water features, woodland and external grounds, as well as sports fields in coordination with the Land Based Activities Manager and PE Department. Pest control preventative measures will also be part of your duties.

Additional responsibilities include undertaking small project work involving soft and hard landscape development, erection of horticultural support structures, maintaining soil husbandry and crop development, and ensuring safe access and exits to the estate.

You will supervise prisoner parties and undertake quality control over their work as agreed within the Service Delivery Agreement. Other tasks include carrying out planned maintenance and small repairs, survey inspections in confined spaces and at height, advising on stock levels and procurement, escorting and supervising technical contractors, operating as banksman directing plant equipment, and maintaining tools and machinery in accordance with security frameworks.

Compliance with all Health and Safety policies, driving estate vehicles, carrying out locking duties, operating within command mode for contingency plans, and undertaking incidental or emergency tasks as required are also key aspects of this role.

The role offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows, blending working from base location, MoJ sites, and home (UK only). Flexible working patterns including part-time and job share will be considered where business needs allow.

Experience
Competent in relevant grounds maintenance skills. Experience supervising prisoner work parties is desirable. Full UK driving licence is required.
