About the Role
Do you want a career where you can make a real difference? Do you want to work at the forefront of current policy making decisions and have an impact on the UK and beyond? If yes, then a career at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) could be for you.
At DESNZ, we are delivering our mission to make the UK a clean energy superpower, aiming for clean electricity by 2030 and accelerating the UK’s journey to net zero. Our work ensures clean energy for all, keeps bills down, and seizes opportunities to lead the world in new green industries. We are taking back control of our energy with Great British Energy and encouraging greater energy efficiency across the UK.
The work of the department is varied, interesting, and impactful. Our DESNZ Values—bold, collaborative, inclusive, and learning—are embedded in everything we do to build a culture where everyone can thrive.
As a Senior Finance Business Partner (G6), you will support one of the major policy and delivery areas within the department by developing close relationships with business areas, senior leaders, and the Director General overseeing these portfolios. Your role will involve acting as a trusted adviser, influencing and collaborating within the business and Finance teams. You will work seamlessly with colleagues in analysis, commercial, and delivery to provide coherent and aligned financial advice.
You will also build strong, collaborative relationships with His Majesty's Treasury (HMT) colleagues to deliver for the government, ensuring relevant advice and steers are provided to agree financial settlements and secure approvals.
Your responsibilities will include providing strategic financial leadership, assurance, and business partnering for key Energy Security and Net Zero projects and portfolios, ensuring robust financial planning, governance, and value for money. This may involve advising policymakers on energy bills, markets, suppliers, system capacity, resilience and security, supporting delivery of major capital projects, contributing finance advice on long-term strategy and risk mitigation, and assuring business cases involving significant spending commitments.
You will also play a key role in Finance's response to special situations and world events affecting the energy system and prices.
We offer great working benefits including a world-class pension, flexible working options, and a career where your learning and development is taken seriously. We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader employer and support candidates with adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, with an expectation to attend the office for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period, balancing business and individual needs.
