WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Senior Engineer to join the Roads team based in Wales, in either our Cardiff or Wrexham offices. You’ll work alongside a host of talented people ranging from early career professionals to established engineers and project managers across our Roads business, using your technical skills and expertise to help us continue delivering exemplary services to our clients for a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle.

You could play a key role in a variety of projects including strategic network improvements, major and minor highway maintenance and asset renewals, active travel and public transport infrastructure, road safety interventions, as well as public realm initiatives. Our well-established regional client base includes Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent, South Wales Trunk Road Agent, and Welsh local authorities.

If a broader client and project experience interests you, you could support national projects such as National Highway’s Scheme Delivery Framework, or our wider Transport & Infrastructure business unit in sectors such as Rail, Water, Energy & Defence. The opportunities within WSP are endless.

You will:
- Deliver engineering solutions for projects or work packages of varying scale, complexity, value and project stages, often working across several projects simultaneously.
- Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and internal disciplines, developing trusted relationships and proactively managing expectations.
- Work closely with Project and Technical Delivery Leads in planning, programming, and pricing of proposals and deliverables.
- Check and certify designs, documents and reports prior to approval.
- Lead and coordinate resources during project or work package delivery.
- Mentor and upskill junior staff, helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance standards and processes.

Requirements

Experience
A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems. Wide-ranging knowledge and experience of highway design at various stages of the project life cycle. Specific experience in any or all of the following is advantageous: highway geometry, active travel, public transport, highway drainage, road restraint systems, pavements, traffic signs and road markings, and utilities. Experience leading single or multi-disciplinary projects or work packages. Well versed in preparation and checking of reports and drawings for transport studies and/or construction projects. Ability to use, direct or check relevant software such as Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, Causeway and/or PDS. Knowledge of all duty holders under CDM regulations. Awareness and proactive management of project and commercial risk in collaboration with Project and Technical Delivery Leads.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or suitable equivalent. Hold IEng or are working towards CEng with demonstrable progress. Broad knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of best practice such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Active Travel Act (Wales) Guidance, and Local Authority design guidance.
