About the Role
We are seeking a Substation Worker C to join our team in Liverpool, NY. This role involves working under general supervision to install, construct, inspect, test, operate, and maintain equipment and facilities in electric substations, switching substations, generating substations, and other electric delivery systems including transmission, distribution, and underground systems. Responsibilities include performing corrective, preventative, predictive, and trouble maintenance; conducting directed switching operations; operating equipment; performing all testing functions on substation apparatus; analyzing test results; and assisting in personnel development and training. Experience
Electrical or mechanical Journeyman certification preferred. Must provide proof of completion of an apprentice program or equivalent. Minimum of three years’ experience with diverse energized and de-energized substation equipment, rubber gloving, climbing, and electrical operating procedures is preferred. Must demonstrate sufficient computer and technology skills.
About you
Must have thorough knowledge of equipment, standards, and practices applicable to substation work and a working knowledge of fundamental electrical theory. Ability to read and understand complex electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and construction prints. Must be capable of performing strenuous work including at elevated heights and in confined spaces. Ability to operate aerial lifts, boom trucks, fork trucks, articulating lifts, backhoes, and other construction and maintenance equipment. Must live within 35 miles of the posting location as per the Memorandum of Agreement Regarding Residency. Must pass physical abilities examination and validated aptitude test. Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. NYS CDL Class A (restricted) or higher, or ability to obtain within 6 months. OSHA crane certification or ability to obtain. Must comply with federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing DOT covered positions. Ability to work without current or future visa sponsorship. Employment subject to collective bargaining agreement terms.
