About the Role
Join Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) as a Sustainability Consultant within the Sustainability & ESG team for the UK & Europe. At RLB, we live by four core values: Truth, Trust, Together, Tomorrow. We foster an inclusive culture where people make progress, valuing your unique skills and perspectives. You will be empowered to shape both your career and the future of sustainable built environments through tailored training, mentoring, and reverse mentoring schemes.

In this role, you will take genuine ownership of client relationships and deliver technical ESG advisory services across a portfolio of institutional real estate clients. You will have more direct client contact and a broader remit than similar roles at larger platforms, running your own workstreams and influencing the development of our service offering.

The core focus is on GRESB advisory and BREEAM In-Use, with opportunities to expand into adjacent ESG service areas. You will manage client expectations, coordinate with stakeholders, and deliver high-quality, data-driven insights that support commercial decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the day-to-day contact for institutional investors, fund managers, and asset managers
- Delivering annual GRESB Real Estate Assessment submissions and managing data workstreams
- Advising clients on BREEAM In-Use strategy, evidence gathering, certification, and improvement opportunities
- Contributing to practice development through bids, proposals, and tool creation

RLB offers genuine client ownership early in your career, exposure across the full ESG advisory spectrum, commercial grounding through collaboration with cost and project management teams, and a culture where you can shape the service offering. Benefits include a competitive salary, discretionary bonus, pension, and flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Requirements

Experience
Approximately 4 years' experience in a client-facing consultancy role, ideally within real estate, sustainability, or the built environment.
Demonstrable experience working directly with institutional investors, fund managers, or asset managers, with a clear understanding of fund structures and stakeholder priorities.
Strong, hands-on GRESB experience, contributing materially to multiple submissions, including scoring architecture, data coverage, and validation.
Strong BREEAM In-Use experience with practical knowledge of the scheme, evidence requirements, and certification process.
Proven ability to manage your own workstreams and deadlines with limited supervision.
Excellent client management skills, able to hold technical positions under commercial pressure and escalate appropriately.
Strong data handling skills, including advanced Excel and working with large, imperfect utility datasets.
Clear and concise written communication skills for reports, memos, and board-level summaries.
Absolute integrity around evidence and data to ensure advice withstands assurance, audit, and investor scrutiny.

About you
Self-sufficient, commercially aware, and willing to engage with detailed technical work.
Credible and confident in client-facing situations.
Collaborative and eager to contribute to practice development.
Committed to continuous learning and professional growth.

Qualifications
A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Desirable

Knowledge of net zero carbon pathways, decarbonisation, embodied carbon assessment, climate risk, and regulatory frameworks (SFDR, EU Taxonomy, CSRD, UK SRS).
Experience in ESG transaction due diligence and familiarity with ESG data platforms.
Professional membership or progression towards IEMA or RICS.
European market exposure or proficiency in a second European language.
