About the Role
Alternative Heat provides fully integrated renewable energy solutions, supporting public and commercial organisations across the UK and Ireland with design, installation, operation, and maintenance services. We deliver Heat as a Service, offering reliable, low-carbon heating infrastructure that supports clients' decarbonisation goals and sustainable heating transitions. The Technical Manager – Heat Pumps will play a key role in driving growth, fostering partnerships, and promoting sustainable solutions. You will lead efforts to secure new business by developing innovative solutions across decarbonisation projects including district heating systems, energy centres, and renewable technology integrations. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will liaise with clients to define project scopes that meet their objectives and engage specialists to ensure designs meet the highest standards of efficiency, innovation, and compliance. This role supports Alternative Heat’s mission to drive decarbonisation in building services.
This position combines product and technical ownership of the commercial heat pump range with responsibility for developing and managing specifications, providing pre-sales technical support, and building strong relationships with consultants, contractors, architects, and clients. You will ensure solutions comply with relevant UK/EU regulations and industry standards, support projects from early design through delivery, and provide expert guidance on system selection, performance, integration, and lifecycle optimisation. Working closely with sales, product management, engineering, marketing, and operations teams, you will help drive specification-led opportunities, protect and convert projects through the sales pipeline, and feed market requirements into product development. A key focus is supporting decarbonisation, retrofit strategies, whole-life performance, reliability, and commercially viable heat pump solutions for complex commercial applications.
Experience
Proven experience in technical management or product ownership within the renewable energy or heating sector, ideally with commercial heat pump systems. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and managing complex decarbonisation projects is highly desirable.
About you
Strong communicator with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams. Strategic thinker with a passion for sustainable energy solutions and decarbonisation. Able to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively while maintaining high standards of technical accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications
Relevant technical qualifications in engineering, renewable energy, or building services are preferred. Knowledge of UK/EU regulations and industry standards related to heat pumps and renewable heating technologies is essential.
