About the Role
We are seeking a hydrogeologist to join a small, friendly team of experts dedicated to the management and protection of groundwater across Sussex, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. Hydrogeology is a fascinating and vital area of groundwater science, supporting operational decisions, environmental regulation, and advancing our understanding of pressures on water resources due to climate change.
In this role, you will provide technical advice on hydrogeological and water resource activities including determining water resource permits, working with licence holders to ensure sustainability, advising on groundwater abstraction impacts, drought and flooding extremes, and major infrastructure projects. You will also support the management of groundwater level networks, provide technical information to customers, and help deliver Water Framework Directive measures and investigations.
Responding to incidents is a key part of the role, with an incident response responsibility and business continuity support during incidents. Full training and potential additional payment will be provided.
The role is part of the Groundwater, Hydrology and Contaminated Land team within the Solent and South Downs Area, providing technical and scientific expertise to internal teams and external stakeholders to protect groundwater quality and quantity. The working location is hybrid with an EA office base, some homeworking, visits to other offices, and occasional site work.

About you
Enthusiastic and motivated individual with strong communication skills, able to present complex technical information clearly and persuasively to a wide range of audiences. You will be adaptable, collaborative, and committed to supporting incident management and business continuity.
We welcome flexible working patterns including job share and are committed to diversity and inclusion.
