About the Role
We are looking for a Waste Lead Manager to join our team and help drive forward positive action across our service. This role is integral to sustainability, cost savings, and regulatory compliance across Mid and South Essex hospitals. You will focus on efficient waste segregation, recycling, and minimising landfill contributions. The management of waste services is coordinated primarily within the Estates and Facilities teams, overseeing waste portering, engaging staff in recycling initiatives, and driving sustainable practices supported by the NHS Net Zero commitment.

If you are looking to build on your previous experience and develop your managerial skillset, this is an exciting opportunity to lead and influence waste and grounds services across the Trust. You will assist with strategic planning and delivery of a high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective waste and grounds service that meets the needs of all clients and stakeholders. The role involves liaising with multi-disciplinary colleagues to ensure continuity and development of the service, monitoring all waste and grounds services against national standards and performance, and managing budgets to ensure quality service delivery within financial limits.

You will also be responsible for planning and organising service provision, including developing plans and strategies to respond to changing service requirements, national standards, and objectives. This is a varied and rewarding role offering the chance to make a significant impact within a large NHS organisation.

Experience
- Experience of waste management in a large organisation
- Experience of change management
- Experience and knowledge of budget management on a large scale, ensuring prudent budget control and effective commercial financial decisions
- Desirable: Previous responsibility for a waste service function in an NHS or private medical/care setting
- Desirable: Experience of dealing with external contractors

About you
You will have specialist knowledge of waste and grounds service procedures and practices, supported by professional hotel services or business management knowledge to degree level or equivalent experience. You should be motivated to lead and develop services that align with sustainability and regulatory compliance goals. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential to liaise effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and external partners.

Qualifications
- Essential: Any waste management qualification
- Desirable: Qualification for waste management (CIWM)
- Professional knowledge underpinned by degree level education or equivalent experience in hotel services or business management
