About the Role

The Waste Lead Manager role is integral to sustainability, cost savings, and regulatory compliance across Mid and South Essex hospitals. This position focuses on efficient waste segregation, recycling, and minimising landfill contributions, coordinated primarily within the Estates and Facilities teams. Responsibilities include overseeing waste portering, engaging staff in recycling initiatives, and driving sustainable practices supported by the NHS Net Zero commitment.
The post holder will assist with the strategic planning and delivery of a high-quality Waste and Grounds service that is efficient, cost effective, and meets the needs of all clients and stakeholders. This includes liaising with multi-disciplinary colleagues to ensure continuity and development of the service, monitoring all waste and grounds services against national standards and performance, managing budgets including resource allocation and forecasting, and delivering quality service within budget.
Additionally, the role involves planning and organising the waste and grounds service provision, developing appropriate plans and strategies to respond to changes in service requirements, national standards, and objectives. This is a varied and rewarding management role offering the opportunity to build on previous experience and develop managerial skills within a dynamic NHS Trust committed to excellent local and specialist services.
