About the Role
RJ Urmson Group, part of the HSL Compliance Group, provides a comprehensive engineering service spanning water treatment, critical ventilation, HVAC, commissioning, and building services. As a Water Treatment Engineer, you will be the technical specialist on site, ensuring closed-loop heating, chilled water, and domestic systems are fully cleaned, flushed, and chemically compliant across high-profile commercial and public sector facilities. Working within a mobile engineering team, you will deliver pre-commission cleaning, system flushing, chemical dosing, and disinfection works across a wide range of sites.
Your responsibilities will include performing pre-commission cleaning and dynamic system flushing of closed-loop heating and chilled water networks in strict accordance with BSRIA BG29 and BG50 guidelines. You will undertake specialist chemical cleaning, including acid descaling of plant, boilers, heat exchangers, and pipework. Additionally, you will carry out mains disinfections and chlorinations of domestic water systems in line with ACOP L8 and HSG274 standards.
You will conduct on-site chemical testing, water sampling, and dosing application, maintaining closed-system monitoring regimes aligned with BS8552. Accurate completion of all digital site reports, flushing certificates, test logs, and compliance records in a timely manner is essential. You will interpret technical drawings and schematics, liaise with site managers and contractors to coordinate access, and communicate project progress clearly. Maintaining strict compliance with site health and safety guidelines and COSHH regulations is critical. You will also identify system faults, recommend remedial actions, and escalate issues when necessary.
Experience
Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in pre-commission cleaning, system flushing, and chlorinations (required). 2+ years in broader water treatment preferred. Working knowledge or familiarity with BSRIA BG29, BG50, BS8552, HSG274, and ACOP L8 is essential.
