About the Role
Forestry England’s South District Harvesting & Marketing Direct Production (DP) team is responsible for planning and harvesting around 50,000m3 of timber annually. As a Work Supervisor (Harvesting), you will support the delivery of Forest Design Plans (FDP) and conservation objectives while fulfilling supply contracts for sawmill customers. Most timber volume is produced as shortwood by mechanised harvesting contractors, with a smaller element of mature hardwood felling using traditional motor manual techniques. You will work closely with Land Management and Planning teams to ensure sustainable forest management and operational success. This role is based within Forestry England’s South England Forest District, which manages 46,000 hectares of public forest estate across Sussex, Dorset, Berkshire, and the Isle of Wight, including areas of national and international conservation importance. The district supports nearly 50 million visits annually, providing public access and recreation in forests located within National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Benefits
Forestry England contributes an average of 28.97% towards your pension through the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme. You will receive 25 days holiday per year, increasing by one day per year of service up to 30 days (pro-rated for part-time employees), plus bank holidays. The STaR employee benefits scheme offers discounts on everyday shopping, holidays, gym memberships, insurance, and wellbeing apps. Free parking at Forestry England sites and free entry to National Arboretums at Westonbirt and Bedgebury are included. Forestry England is committed to lifelong learning and career development through continual professional development, individual learning plans, and sponsored membership of professional bodies.
