About the Role
Forestry England is the country’s largest land manager, dedicated to caring for the nation’s forests for people, nature, and the economy. We are seeking a Recreation Works Supervisor to support the Recreation Manager in planning and implementing all aspects of recreational management across the New Forest. You will supervise the Recreation Infrastructure Maintenance including arboretums, car parks, trails, and cycle tracks, as well as oversee income generation by supervising and monitoring licensees across the forest.
You will directly supervise a team of 5 dedicated craftspeople and a range of specialist contractors to ensure works meet contract specifications, safety standards, timescales, and deliver value for money. Working as an integral part of the Forestry England New Forest Recreation Team, you will maintain recreation facilities and site infrastructure to provide a high-quality visitor experience. This includes car parks, cycle routes, and trails within the forest.
Your role will also involve maintaining health and safety and legal obligations, upholding requirements associated with UKWAS, and ensuring business-critical areas and income generation priorities are delivered. You will collaborate with supervisors of the wider Beat teams to combine craftspeople and machinery to maintain visitor facilities, ensuring a smooth, inclusive, and enjoyable experience for all visitors. You will help cultivate a supportive and positive work environment that encourages teamwork, productivity, and individual growth.
Forestry England’s South England Forest District manages 46,000 hectares of public forest estate stretching from Sussex to Dorset and Berkshire to the Isle of Wight. The area includes National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and sites of national and international importance for biodiversity and conservation.

Experience
Experience in supervising teams and contractors within a recreation or land management environment is desirable. Proven ability to manage health and safety and legal obligations effectively. Experience in maintaining infrastructure such as car parks, trails, and cycle tracks is advantageous.

Qualifications
There are no specific qualifications required; however, relevant experience and a commitment to ongoing professional development are essential.
