About the Role
The Government Property Agency (GPA) is the largest property holder in government, managing over £2.1 billion in property assets and more than 55% of the government’s office estate. We are transforming the way the Civil Service works by creating great places to work, leading major commercial office programmes, reducing carbon emissions, and delivering greater value for taxpayers. We are seeking innovative, solutions-focused individuals to join our dynamic and diverse team that leads with purpose, improving sustainability, nurturing social value, driving inclusivity and flexibility, and supporting economic growth.

The Area Workplace Services Manager is a pivotal role within the Workplace Service Delivery Team. Reporting to the Workplace Services Regional Manager, you will lead the delivery of high-quality customer services within an allocated area of the region. You will be passionate about customer service excellence and capable of building and inspiring teams of civil servants to deliver an outstanding workplace experience.

Key responsibilities include being the face of GPA Workplace Services to local clients, managing a team of Workplace Managers (typically 1-6 direct reports), driving service performance, managing contractual relationships with service providers, handling escalations and incidents, overseeing minor works and churn projects, managing budgets and chargeable works, and supporting the development and deployment of Workplace Services strategies. You will also deputise for the Regional Manager as required and contribute to embedding change programmes across the agency.

We foster a culture of lifelong learning and innovation, underpinned by our core values: striving for excellence, empowering through respect, acting with integrity, and succeeding together. The GPA is committed to diversity, equality, and inclusion, encouraging applications from all backgrounds to build a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.

Requirements

Experience

About you
You will be an excellent leader and manager, capable of identifying and implementing improvements and promoting a high-performance customer service culture. You should be creative, innovative, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrix environment dealing with uncertainty and emerging challenges. The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and travel within the region (and occasionally nationally) is necessary.

Qualifications
Essential: Must have or be working towards a recognised industry qualification.
Desirable: Professional qualifications such as IWFM or equivalent, APM registration or chartership are advantageous. Applicants with relevant transferable skills from sectors such as hospitality or events management are encouraged to apply.
