About the Role
Are you passionate about improving the environmental performance of infrastructure development projects? Join AECOM as an Associate EIA Director within our Environment & Sustainability business, a national team of over 650 staff across the UK and Ireland. You will lead and manage multidisciplinary environmental inputs to large-scale development projects that are transforming infrastructure and supporting the UK’s net zero goals. Projects include energy generation (carbon capture, hydrogen, renewables), energy distribution and transmission, strategic rail, highway improvements, regeneration, and developments across ecommerce, minerals and waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.
You will work across multiple consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill) and collaborate daily with technical experts within our established Environmental Impact team. As a founding member of the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, AECOM aligns all work with our environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading multidisciplinary environmental inputs to help clients gain development consent
- Preparing EIA screening letters, Scoping Reports, and Environmental Statements with technical review of specialist chapters
- Managing resources, delegating activities, and overseeing project budgets
- Collaborating with integrated design teams to identify environmental constraints, avoid impacts, and develop mitigation solutions
- Leading business development activities including fee and technical proposal preparation
- Supporting staff development and mentoring
- Promoting AECOM’s environmental services internally and externally

Experience
- Proven experience managing EIA projects, environmental assessment methods, and relevant planning legislation
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure development projects
- Familiarity with consenting regimes such as DCO and/or TWAO
- Confidence engaging with diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong project management skills including staff resource and budget management

- Interest in line management and staff mentoring
- Willingness to occasionally travel to client offices
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably a Masters degree
- Appropriate professional membership (e.g. Chartered Environmentalist status)
