About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Nature team as a Technical Director and help shape the future of ecology across the UK and Ireland. You will lead and deliver ecological inputs on a diverse portfolio of large infrastructure projects in sectors such as energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport, alongside smaller local projects. Your role will balance technical leadership, project management, client engagement, and team mentoring. You will be a key member of the ecology leadership team, influencing the direction and growth of the team and its work.
Responsibilities include leading ecological assessments and project delivery, producing and reviewing technical reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations. You will provide pragmatic, proportionate solutions, manage large-scale projects, lead stakeholder consultations, and drive innovation and research within the team. Additionally, you will lead bids and tenders for ecological services and mentor junior and peer staff.

Experience
- Proven experience leading and managing biodiversity assessments for major planning applications and Development Consent Order submissions
- Strong project management skills including budget oversight, stakeholder engagement, and bid/tender preparation
- Experience reviewing and verifying technical ecological work and supporting team members

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in ecology or a related subject
- Membership of a relevant professional institution and working towards or holding Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status
- Excellent knowledge of biodiversity legislation, policy, and ecological reporting standards
