About the Role
Fidra Energy is a leading battery energy storage system (BESS) platform with a secured UK pipeline of approximately 3GW, including major projects such as Thorpe Marsh (1.4GW), West Burton C (500MW), and Bicker Fen 1 & 2 (1.2GW). As the Battery Storage Development Engineering Manager, you will work closely with the Chief Growth & Strategy Officer, Growth & Strategy Directors, and business owners to deliver greenfield development projects, support project financing, manage Invitation to Tender processes, and nurture strong industry relationships. Your role will also involve asset expansion, optimisation, battery augmentations, acquisitions, and disposals across multiple projects and initiatives. You will be responsible for delivering expected outcomes within the constraints of time, cost, scope, and quality.

You will lead technical due diligence on acquisitions and advanced development activities, support planning application processes, review grid connections, and assess battery energy systems procurement. Additionally, you will contribute to offtake and financing arrangements, support construction teams in resolving regulatory and technical issues, and assist plant managers with performance testing and compliance during asset operations. The role requires strong technical skills, project management expertise, and excellent interpersonal abilities to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders internally and externally.

The Growth & Strategy team is based in Edinburgh and is highly qualified, driven to deliver the company’s growth strategy, and works closely with internal teams and external advisers to achieve its objectives.

Experience
- Minimum 5 years in power generation or storage with a development engineering focus, either in industry or consulting.
- At least 3 years of experience with energy storage technology, particularly Li-Ion batteries, systems engineering, and integration.
- Experience in battery storage and/or hybrid systems (solar/wind plus storage).
- Desirable experience in BOP/BOS level engineering including cable calculation, civils, MV-Substation and HV-Substation engineering.
- Beneficial to have direct experience supporting M&A activities, due diligence, and reviewing modelling assumptions.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s, Master’s or Diploma in Electrical, Renewables, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience and knowledge gained in the field.
