About the Role
Fidra Energy is a leading battery energy storage system (BESS) platform headquartered in Edinburgh, UK, with a secured pipeline of approximately 3GW across major UK projects including Thorpe Marsh (1.4GW), West Burton C (500MW), and Bicker Fen 1 & 2 (1.2GW). Thorpe Marsh is Europe’s largest battery development project and is progressing into construction following funding secured in September 2025. Fidra aims to deliver a 10GW portfolio of projects across the UK and Europe by 2030.
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the commercial development of grid-scale BESS projects across the UK. You will ensure electrical designs are technically robust, commercially optimised, and compliant with UK regulatory and network requirements. This position suits an engineer who enjoys working at the front end of projects, balancing technical detail with commercial decision-making in a fast-paced development environment.
Key responsibilities include providing electrical input to early-stage project development, supporting investment and planning decisions through technical feasibility assessments, leading grid connection applications and negotiations, developing high-level electrical concepts, managing technical risks, and acting as the technical interface between internal teams and external stakeholders including consultants, DNOs, OEMs, and EPC contractors.
Experience

- Experience reviewing consultant or third-party technical outputs
- Experience and knowledge of undertaking Factory Acceptance Testing
About you
- Ability to balance engineering judgement with commercial outcomes
- Familiarity with DNO processes, queue management, and connection strategy optimisation is desirable
- Understanding of planning constraints and their influence on electrical design is advantageous
- Experience supporting technical due diligence or financial close is a plus
- Experience in grid code connections, commissioning, and compliance requirements is beneficial
- Experience of construction projects is desirable
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration is desirable
- Experience specifically with BESS or co-located renewable projects is advantageous
