About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting, enhancing, and restoring the aquatic environment? Join AECOM as a Consultant Aquatic Ecologist within our growing Aquatic Ecology Team. You will provide technical expertise and undertake surveys for a diverse range of projects including work for the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy projects, and nationally significant infrastructure developments. Your role will involve baseline data collection and monitoring, fish passage and weir removal projects, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring, pollution response surveys, drought monitoring, and more.

You will collect and process freshwater macroinvertebrate samples, assist with benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, and support fieldwork and sample collection across various aquatic taxa. You will contribute to Environmental Impact Assessment documents in line with CIEEM guidelines, support data entry, analysis, and report writing, and deliver consultancy and advisory services with a high level of technical quality. Collaboration with other environmental specialists and disciplines on projects of varying scale is a key part of this role.

Become part of a dynamic Nature business with over 230 professional experts across the UK and Ireland, including national and global leaders in species licensing, impact assessment, habitat creation, freshwater ecology, ecosystem restoration, enhancement, and management. Our Aquatic Ecology team consists of 20+ specialists with laboratories in Nottingham and Leeds and a southern hub in Basingstoke. At AECOM, you will thrive in an inclusive, forward-thinking environment with access to career development, flexible hybrid working, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering opportunities.
