About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting, enhancing, and restoring the aquatic environment? Join AECOM's Aquatic Ecology Team as a Consultant Aquatic Ecologist and play a key role in delivering high-quality technical expertise and surveys across a diverse range of projects. You will work within a growing, friendly, and motivated multidisciplinary team based across the UK, including offices in Leeds, Nottingham, Basingstoke, Dublin, and Glasgow. Your work will support projects for clients such as the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy developments, and nationally significant infrastructure projects.

Typical projects include baseline data collection and monitoring for major infrastructure and utility developments, fish passage and weir removal projects, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring for regulators and private sector clients, pollution response surveys, and drought monitoring.

Your responsibilities will include collecting and processing freshwater macroinvertebrate samples, undertaking benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, assisting with fieldwork and sample collection (including macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, phytobenthos, fisheries, and water quality), and supporting the production of Environmental Impact Assessment documents in line with CIEEM guidelines. You will also contribute to data entry, analysis, survey reports, ecological appraisals, desk studies, literature reviews, and deliver consultancy and advisory services with a strong focus on safety and technical quality.

At AECOM, you will be part of a dynamic Nature business with over 230 professional experts across the UK and Ireland, including national and global leaders in species licensing, impact assessment, habitat creation, freshwater ecology, ecosystem restoration, enhancement, and management. Our Aquatic Ecology team consists of 20+ specialists with laboratories in Nottingham and Leeds and a southern hub in Basingstoke.

Enjoy a supportive and inclusive environment with access to career development opportunities, flexible hybrid working arrangements, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days. Join us to contribute to projects that create a positive and tangible impact on communities and the environment worldwide.
