About the Role
We are seeking Design Engineers to join Camden Council's Highways Engineering Service to help deliver safer, healthier and more sustainable streets across Camden. You will support the development and delivery of a diverse range of highway, traffic, parking, active travel and public realm projects, from smaller traffic management and parking schemes to larger transport and public realm improvements.
Working alongside Senior Engineers, Project Managers and colleagues, you will take projects from initial feasibility through to detailed design and construction. Your responsibilities will include producing engineering drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD and other industry-standard software, preparing specifications, cost estimates, quantities and contract documentation.
You will undertake site visits, inspections and surveys and contribute to the design of highway layouts, junction improvements, drainage systems, traffic management measures and public realm enhancements. Ensuring safety, accessibility, sustainability and maintenance considerations are embedded within your designs is essential.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the quality of Camden’s public spaces by applying urban design principles alongside highway engineering requirements to create attractive, inclusive and accessible places that balance movement with community needs.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues, consultants, contractors, developers and public bodies and support consultation and engagement with residents, businesses and other stakeholders, communicating technical proposals clearly to a range of audiences.
Experience
Engineering qualification at degree level or equivalent, with post-qualification experience in a practising Graduate Engineer position or above, or at least two years’ applied experience as a Design/Highways Engineer or above.
Good understanding of highway design within an urban environment, including relevant policies, standards, specifications and design criteria.
Experience designing engineering schemes and working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders.
Experience of project and budget management, consultants, public consultation, contracts and procurement is valuable.
Proven experience producing highway designs using AutoCAD.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical information clearly and confidently.
About you
Committed to delivering safer, healthier and more sustainable streets.
Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.

Enthusiastic about contributing to positive social change and regeneration.
Qualifications

Relevant professional experience as outlined above.
