About the Service and Team
Sutton has a long-standing commitment to reducing its environmental impact. The council’s corporate plan, Ambitious for Sutton 2022-2027, commits to tackling climate change and becoming a net zero carbon borough. To achieve these ambitions, the council implements its Environment Strategy and Climate Emergency Response Plan.
The Climate Action and Emergency Planning service focuses not only on reducing carbon emissions from the Council and Borough but also on adapting to climate change impacts and increasing resilience. The service is responsible for waste disposal and works with residents to reduce waste production and maximise recycling opportunities.
About the Role
This role is based within the Council’s Climate Action and Emergency Planning team. The postholder will deliver and facilitate projects supporting the Council’s Environment Strategy, Climate Emergency Response Plan and Waste Strategy. This includes collaborating with colleagues, partners and the local community to drive climate action.
Key activities include:
- Developing, supporting and delivering a range of sustainability projects
- Inspiring and motivating others to implement climate change and waste minimisation improvements through communications and community engagement, both internally and externally
- Contributing to networks and themed groups that facilitate climate action
- Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the council’s Environment Strategy, Climate Emergency Response Plan and Waste Strategy, including analysing performance data
- Providing environmental advice and support to colleagues on projects, commissioning, procurement, policy and strategy
- Assisting with and leading the identification and production of funding bids and other opportunities aligned with the team’s business plan, strategy and priorities

Experience
Experience in working with others to facilitate action and deliver projects is essential. Proven ability to mobilise and motivate colleagues, partners and community members to lead climate change and sustainability initiatives is highly desirable.

Qualifications
