Location
Welwyn Garden City, working from the vibrant office in the heart of the town with hybrid working (2-3 days office attendance per week, subject to service needs).

Hours
37 hours per week, permanent contract. The role may require working outside normal office hours including occasional evenings.

Salary
Starting salary £47,907 per annum with progression to £51,246 per annum through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance).

About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Protection Team at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. This is a high-impact role at the heart of a prominent public-facing service, offering the opportunity to shape environmental health standards across the borough.
You will play a key part in protecting public health by responding to complaints and service requests, working with a wide range of businesses and stakeholders to provide clear advice, take proportionate enforcement action, and contribute to safer communities.
The role involves discharging the Council's responsibilities under environmental protection legislation, conducting investigations, managing a varied caseload, preparing prosecution cases, and providing input into licensing and planning consultations.
You will work both independently and as part of a team, maintaining accurate records and working in partnership with other Council teams and external agencies to deliver the best outcomes.

Experience
- Qualified Environmental Health Practitioner with a degree or equivalent qualification.
- Proven track record of managing complex cases through to conclusion and driving service improvements.
- Ideally experienced in environmental protection matters and confident in making proportionate decisions.
- Strong communication skills, well organised, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.

Qualifications
